Astronomical Feature Research

Let's Get Started, Fam!

Step 1: Watch the video explaining the project.

The first thing to do is to watch this video that details what the Astronomy research project is about.

Step 2: Tell Ms. Adviento which task you're doing, and who you're working with by Thursday 16th April.

  • Choose which task you're doing (either Task 1 or Task 2).

  • Make a decision on who you will do this project with. You are allowed to do it individually.

  • Let Ms. Adviento know by commenting on her Google Classroom post.

Step 3: Tell Ms. Adviento which astronomical feature or aspect of colonising Mars you're going to research by Monday 20th April.

Let Ms. Adviento know by commenting on her Google Classroom post.

  • If you're doing Task 1: Research an Astronomical Feature, tell her which feature you're going to research.

  • If you're doing Task 2: Research and Plan How To Colonise Mars, tell her which aspect of colonising Mars you're going to research.

Step 4: Follow the Research Plan

In our Google Meet session on Tuesday 21 April, we put our heads together to come up with a research plan.

  1. Have a topic in mind before you begin researching.

  2. Have a look at HADE's List of Resources (Step 5 below).

  3. Do some research on the internet or by reading books. It is important they you keep a list of keywords and list of questions to guide your research.

  4. Check your facts before you believe them!

  5. Work on your presentation. Make it interesting, fun, and informative!

Step 5: Contribute to our Class List of Resources to Check Out

In our Google Meet session on Tuesday 21 April, we decided that research would be easier if everyone added any fantastic website they come across in their research.

So as you find great websites, please add it to HADE's List of Resources (Google Doc, to the right).

Task 1: Research an Astronomical Feature

Resources you should have a look at:

  • Use the 'Scale of the Universe' interactive simulation to get some ideas on astronomical features you could research.

  • The Student Booklet has more information on what this project is about, and how you're going to present it.

  • The Student Checklist are the things you MUST cover in your powerpoint presentation.

  • The Powerpoint Presentation Template is just a guide on what your 5 slides should be about.

Task 2: Research and Plan How to Colonise Mars

Resources you should have a look at:

  • The Student Booklet has more information on what this project is about, and how you're expected to include in it, and how you're expected to present the information you find.

  • Exemplars from previous students' work, so you can have some kind of idea of what we expect from you.
