5. Disease and Medicine
Success Criteria
Success Criteria
Your learning has been successful if you can do the following:
To explain how micro-organisms play a role in disease.
To learn the symptoms of COVID-19 and why they occur.
To learn about how vaccines work.
To understand how bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary
Learn these so you can communicate this concept well.
Pathogen: A disease causing micro-organism.
Vaccine: A medicine that teaches your immune system how to make antibodies (antibodies stop pathogens from being able to infect host cells). This prevents disease.
Antibiotic resistance: Some bacteria have mutations that mean they are no longer killed by a particular antibiotic.
