1. Seed Structure & Function
Success Criteria
Your learning has been successful if you can do the following:
I can define ‘germination’.
I can label a diagram of a seed.
I can correctly dissect a broad bean seed and identify seed structures.
I can describe each of the structures making up the germinating seed.
Vocabulary
Learn these so you can communicate this concept well.
Plumule: The first shoot that comes out of the seed.
Testa: The outer covering of the seed.
Cotyledon: The energy needed for the seed to germinate.
Radicle: The first root that comes out of the seed.
Micropyle: Where the water can get into the seed.

Do Now in your OneNote/Notebook:
Write one sentence to explain the function of a seed.
In your Learning Journal:
Re-write this interpreting question so it is asking about Seed Structure & Function:
How do the parts influence the whole?
Then, write an answer for it.
In your Learning Journal:
Re-write this interpreting question so it is asking about the testa:
What does it remind you of?
Then, write an answer for it.
